Friday night around midnight we heard several emergency vehicles pulling up and congregating on our street. It turned out that across the road from us, a house was actively on fire. Fortunately only part of the second floor and roof seemed to be burning. It was put out pretty quickly and nobody was hurt. These shots are from my balcony during the short time it was going on.

Our neighbor showed up on our doorstep Wednesday night with a black cat her dog had chased up on a fence. We took him in planning to foster him until the owner turned up. Today we learned the owner moved out about about a week ago from a house down our alley. I have a Craigslist post up and I've notified the local shelter, so at this point we're just sort of waiting to see if she'll come around looking for her cat.
He is a very mellow and sweet guy, quite big, VERY soft. He looks like a black cat fashioned himself a vest out of a dark brown sheep.

Seattle Center

The EMP Museum in Seattle is home to several really cool pop culture exhibits with great original props and costumes. My favorite were probably the items from The Princess Bride - they had Buttercup's wedding dress, the Dread Pirate Roberts and Inigo Montoya's outfits, and the six-fingered glove among other things. Other shots here are scenes in/around the Seattle Center.

Pictures from along the ship canal near Fremont, including interesting boats, signs, and a sleeping duck. The weather has become progressively clearer lately, so you can finally see Mt. Rainier again. It's peeking out in the last photo above.

More photos from this week in my area of Queen Anne (northern part). This neighborhood has lots of impressive landscaping with a wide variety unique ornamental plants I've never seen before, and many modern homes. Queen Anne is situated on the highest named hill in Seattle, so as you wander around you can catch some very scenic views of the Cascades to the east and the Olympics to the west. (The last picture shows the Olympics, and the modern house with the red door has windows through which you can see the Cascades if you look at my photo closely.)
